CEDARtools.SmartTrace
Task runtime profiling from hardware trace, feeding hybrid WCET analysis and trace-based debugging - availability answered per target configuration.

Two jobs it is used for
WCET analysis - worst-case execution time on multi-core targets is hard to establish by static analysis alone, and hard to establish by measurement alone. The practical approach is hybrid: static analysis provides the structure and the bounds, measurement provides the real execution times of real paths on real silicon. SmartTrace for WCET analysis
Debugging - failures that move the moment you observe them are a tooling problem: passive trace records execution without adding the logging calls and breakpoints that make them move. SmartTrace for debugging
Where it fits
The measured timing feeds AbsInt TimeWeaver for hybrid WCET analysis. That combination was presented jointly with AbsInt at ERTS² 2024 - the paper is on the publications page. The combined workflow can contribute measured execution and interference observations to a project argument addressing the objectives of EASA AMC 20-193; sufficiency remains a project determination.

What it measures
Task runtime profiling - not classical structural coverage. That distinction is deliberate: the underlying trace mechanism differs per platform - MCDS on AURIX™ gives a different view than CoreSight™ gives on Arm® - and we would rather name what each configuration does than stretch a word. Availability is answered per target configuration.
A captured trace can also be exported as a Perfetto .pftrace file and read as
a timeline: function calls become slices, traced memory accesses appear as
instant events. That export is currently beta -

The configuration determines whether raw trace, reconstructed events, aggregated metrics or only final reports are retained. The report states which artifacts remain available for later reproduction or independent review.
For structural coverage, see CEDARtools.Coverage and the target configuration check.
